Czech Consensus Platform for 3R Alternatives to Animal Experimentation
CZECOPA
The national platform "Czech Consensus Platform for 3R Alternatives to Animal Experimentation " (CZECOPA) is a not-for-profit association founded in accordance with the Act No.83/1990 Coll. on associations of citizens.
The purposes of CZECOPA are to facilitate the exchange of scientific information, expertise and experience between four parties: the industry, science and academia, animal welfare and government institutions to enhance the further development and implementation of refinement, reduction and replacement (3R-concept) in animal experimentation in the Czech Republic.
CZECOPA is a member of the International Association ECOPA - "European Consensus Platform for 3R Alternatives to Animal Experimentation", located in Brussels, Belgium (
http://ecopa.vub.ac.be).
The main goals of CZECOPA are:
ˇ to raise public, governmental and scientific awareness for a better acceptance of alternatives in experimental practice
ˇ to organise conferences, seminars, publish documents, collect and circulate information
ˇ to support scientific and educational initiatives and find their funding
ˇ to and promote the implementation of alternatives into the legal system in the Czech Republic and other member states
ˇ to cooperate with other platforms and organizations in the EU and worldwide
Any person or legal entity may become a member of CZECOPA. The main criteria for membership are accepting the principle of consensus regarding the delegation of the four parties and the 3-R-concept, establishing this consensus in an open and democratic way and having activities in the scope of the 3R-concept. New members have to be recommended by at least one CZECOPA member and the membership is accepted by the General Assembly.
